The first week of your stay as an international student in a foreign land is always exciting. You’re anxious, you’re excited, you’re scared and what not. You experience a mix of emotions. All your energies are focused on overcoming these emotions and settling in the new country.

Once you get past this stage is when home sickness starts to set in. This is when you start missing those tasty morning coffees and breakfasts that mom never fails to treat you with, every morning of the twenty years or more at home.

Here’s one quick tip to avoid this dreaded period. Plan first month abroad well ahead. Let there not be too much spare time at least during the first 3 to 4 weeks.

American Commerce Insurance offers a wide variety of insurance products including motorcycle, home, renters and auto insurance.  Most people carry different types of insurance policies to protect them in the case of different kinds of accidents.  But there isn’t really an insurance product for everything that can go wrong and that’s where umbrella insurance comes in handy.  American Commerce offers umbrella insurance and does a great job of explaining how it works on their website.

Basically umbrella insurance is a catch-all insurance product.  It takes care of larger incidents that are highly unlikely, but still can devastate you.

Car seat guidelines have been updated for the first time since 2002 and many parents are less than thrilled with the new strict guidelines.  According to Keith McCord of the Deseret News, “Parents (are) confused, upset over new car seat guidelines.”  Car insurance companies have a vested interest in these new guidelines because if they really do keep kids safer in crashes, that could lower the medical bills being paid out after car accidents.  The guidelines are a joint effort between the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  They are based more on height and weight now and less on age.

It is now recommended that children’s car seats remain rear-facing until at least the age of 2, an increase from the age of 1.  They pair this age 2 guideline with a weight of 35 pounds.  Many parents argue that their smaller children did not weigh that much until well over age 3 and say that their legs were way too long to be in a rear-facing car seat.  Insurers like Infinity auto insurance could then have to worry about broken legs in an accident, according to some parents.  But a manager at the Primary Children’s Medical Center says that there is no record of a child breaking their legs because they were rear-facing.  She also points out that a study in 2007 showed that children are five times safer when they are rear-facing than when they are forward-facing.

The other guideline ruffling some feathers is the recommendation that children remain in booster seats until they are at least 80 pounds, 4 foot 9 inches, and between 8 and 12 years old.  It is said that that is when they will best fit into regular seatbelts.  While many parents are up in arms about these new guidelines, they are meant with their children’s safety in mind and they are not law.  Each child grows differently and could be lighter or heavier than others their size.  It is best to go to an inspection station if you have any question about the safety of your children.

It is important that you go into using insurance leads with realistic expectations. Some leads will turn out to be better than others, and depending on how you speak to your customers, you will have varying degrees of success.

Some things you should be aware of:

Ask for pertinent information. Sometimes a potential client might enter the wrong phone number or some incorrect data that affects the quote. If a client has entered fake information, you can get a refund for those leads.

Auto insurance fraud is soon to become a felony in the state of New York.  Legislators are working on harsher penalties for those submitting false claims and other fraudulent activity according to the article “New York Senate Passes Bill Making Auto Insurance Fraud a Felony” found on the US Insurance Corner website.

The New York Senate is hoping that passing harsher penalties against perpetrators will not only encourage less fraud but will ultimately lower costs of auto insurance quotes for everyone in the state.  Fraud losses have to be made up somehow by insurers and unfortunately it ends up coming out of innocent, law-abiding customers.

Republican Senator James Seward sponsored the bill and on the Senate’s insurance committee as a chairman.

When people buy a car they often do not have a car insurance policy in place before the purchase is complete. In the state of Mississippi, Governor Haley Barbour needs to review the new House bill regarding car insurance. The name of the bill is House Bill 620. It has already been passed by the state’s legislature. What the bill does is require drivers to get car insurance coverage. If they do not then the tax clerk will not give them a car tag.

A car tag is very important to people because every year a person needs to register their vehicle. If their car does not become registered then people will face fines for non-compliance.  The police now will be able to monitor people to make sure that they always have car insurance coverage on their vehicles because of the tax tags that are being issued.
