When get started buying Internet leads, it’s important for you to know what works and what doesn’t in terms of setting up your filters (the barriers you set up which determine which areas and which types of customers from whom you receive leads).

Here are some things to do and some things to avoid when setting up your filters:

DON’T: Be too restrictive with your filters. If you set them to too small an area or to too small of a target market, you won’t receive enough leads to really build off of.

DO: Try out a large area, then tighten your filters once you see where your return rate is highest.

Owners of let properties take considerable risk in renting to what are essentially complete strangers, and that risk is arguably greater when renting to beneficiaries of DSS housing benefits. Certainly, insurance companies view this category of renters as high risk, which is why many refuse to provide insurance to landlords with DSS tenants. That is not to say it is impossible to get coverage though, since there are reputable, established insurance providers who do offer DSS tenants insurance cover.

DSS housing benefits, now governed by the Department for Work and Pensions rather than the former Department of Social Services, are granted to low income individuals in the form of Local Housing Allowance (before April 2007 it was known simply as Housing Benefits).

As a sales person you have already heard every reason in the book why someone isn’t willing to buy your product today, but when it comes to insurance leads the tenacity or sales tactics you have built up over a lifetime can sometimes fall apart. Remember from the blog post “Busting the myth of Insurance leads” that a lead represents a person shopping for insurance right now, it doesn’t mean the lead form is an application for your policy.
