According to the Rochester Homepage in New York, lawmakers in the state are working to crack down on fraudulent no-fault car insurance claims.  This is good news for car insurance companies, especially those dealing with fraud related to no-fault car insurance claims.  After a car accident, no-fault insurance allows drivers to be paid out even though the blame for the car accident is not placed on either driver.  Unfortunately, New York state lawmakers say that there are a lot of fraudulent claims being paid out and that New Yorkers are paying millions of dollars a year for these fraudulent no-fault claims.

Some criminals actually create car accidents so that they can file a no-fault insurance claim with their car insurer.  Insurance companies like Infinity auto insurance are obviously not happy about that and will be pleased to see lawmakers help cut down on false claims.  Lawmakers have already made it a felony to cause a car accident intentionally, the first step in cutting out this fraud.  Even though there aren’t that many people filing fraudulent claims, it really does effect everyone because it causes car insurance rates to increase.  Lawmakers hope to find a way to cut down on this expensive fraud very soon.

Even a small annual savings on car insurance can pay off over several years. There are many savings tips out there, but here are five ways you can save on your car insurance rates that you may have overlooked.

1. Multi-policy discounts for renters

Look for an insurance company that will give you a multi-policy discount for carrying both your auto and renters insurance with them. Home owners can usually save money by combining auto and home insurance policies together, but some companies will also extend multi-policy discounts to tenants who carry their renters insurance.

2. Keep up with the changes in your life

Small changes in your life could result in a discount, or a reduction in your car insurance premium.

According to the article “Florida Senate Panel Advances Auto Insurance Bills” by Brent Kallestad on Business Week’s website, two Florida bills aimed at cutting down the amount of fraud running rampant through Florida moved passed an important Senate panel.  The Senate Banking and Insurance Committee barely approved the bills after some debate between lawmakers.

Legislature is trying to get a handle of the amount of auto insurance fraud that is frustrating insurers enormously.  The bills move forward after being backed by the insurance industry which would give them more power to deny claims they deem suspicious for fraud.  A similar bill is moving through the Senate as well.

Chicago Toyota announced on Thursday that it is recalling more than 300 000 sport utility vehicles in the United States to fix faulty airbag sensors.

The automaker said the sensors which are designed to detect vehicle roll angle can malfunction and inadvertently cause the side curtain airbag and seatbelt to be activated.

The sensor malfunction does not prevent the airbag from deploying during a collision, Toyota said in a statement.

A Toyota spokesperson said the Japanese automaker has received defect-related reports of “minor injuries, including a report of a persons hand being cut by a seatbelt in March”.

The recall affects 214 000 RAV4 vehicles and 94 000 Highlander and Highlander HV vehicles from the 2007 and 2008 model years.
